Awards The BA (The British Association for the Advancement of Science) “The Charles Darwin Award Lecture, 2004” This is the BA’s main national, annual award “lecture” for public understanding of the biological sciences; nationally this is probably the most prestigious award one can receive for communicating the biological sciences in the UK. Lecture title: “The Chemicals of Pleasure: Good or Evil?” Contact: Professor Robert Winston (c/o Hammersmith Hospital/Imperial College London), President of the BA. The Arvon Foundation and The Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851 “Science Writing Project, 2004” This is the first ever science writing workshop run by the Arvon foundation. It was application by nomination only, a five day residential retreat for 12 hand picked scientists to work on a science writing project, with all expenses paid. Direction and instruction were provided by John Gribbin (Schrodinger’s Cat) and Jim Crace (twice winner of the Whitbread Award). The book project I am currently working on concerns the science of pleasure and is called Pleasure and how you can get more of it. Contact: author John Gribbin and novelist Jim Crace. |
